Halloween is still a few weeks away, but social media is already in an uproar over the likelihood that people will be dressing up as Jeffrey Dahmer this October. The real-life serial killer and cannibal are expected to be one of the top costumes this year thanks largely in part to the Ryan Murphy drama ‘Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,’ which has become Netflix’s second most popular series of all time.
The show, which stars Evan Peters as Dahmer, has been criticized for glamourizing the notorious murderer who killed and ate 17 victims in Ohio and Wisconsin between 1978 and 1991. The renewed interest in Dahmer and his crimes has people warning others not to don a blonde wig and gold-frame glasses this Halloween, explaining that dressing as the deranged serial killer is a slap in the face to the families of his victims.
‘The constant lack of remorse for Dahmer’s victims on social media makes me believe many people are going dress as Jeffery Dahmer and his victims for Halloween and that is so sick,’ one person tweeted.
Another added: ‘I’m am urging people to PLEASE not dress up as Jeffery Dahmer for Halloween. We get that there is a cool new Netflix show about him but this man was a real-life murderer who does not deserve the praise.’
‘FFS, please do not “Cosplay” or dress up as Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween. Stop idolizing a horrific human that committed atrocious crimes. It’s f**king weird,’ someone else insisted. ‘Go to therapy to work through your weird a** obsession, too. That s**t is not healthy.’
Others claimed people should be ‘beat up’ for dressing as the serial killer while denouncing his crimes and the true-crime junkies who idolize him. ‘If you see someone being Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween, please beat them up,’ one Twitter user wrote, while another commented: ‘If I see ANYONE dress up as [Jeffrey] Dahmer for Halloween, hands will be thrown, I’m not sorry.’
However, despite the backlash brewing, there are a number of Dahmer costume tutorials that have been shared on TikTok in recent weeks. Some of the clips show how key pieces of the killer’s wardrobe can easily be purchased online, including versions of his signature gold-frame glasses. READ MORE
