(BREAKING NEWS) A powerful earthquake jolted Japan’s northeast coast on Wednesday, shaking buildings and triggering a tsunami warning. The tremor registered magnitude 7.3, according to public broadcaster NHK.

This was corroborated by the USGS, though the EMSC said it was 7.4. The earthquake hit the Myagi and Fukushima prefectures. Fukushima is home to a large nuclear power plant where a 2011 earthquake caused a severe disaster.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was further than 100 miles from a city. In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 20.5 miles. Did you feel this earthquake? Consider reporting what you felt to the USGS.
