(OPINION) ETH – Something strange is going on in the waters of Southern California. First, it was the unexplained death of 8 whales over the past month, now a rare, deep-sea anglerfish has recently been discovered dead on Newport Beach at Crystal Cove State Park.
Many believe it is the direct result of the Fukushima radiation fallout following the deadly earthquake and tsunami back in 2011 while some even believe that these deep-sea animals washing ashore are a harbinger of a coming mega quake.
Some scientists hypothesize that deep-sea fish like oarfish are closer to active faults, so they could be more sensitive to chemical changes that happen in ocean water when earthquakes occur.
Regardless of the ongoing debate, It still remains a mystery as to what is actually causing these animals to keep washing ashore dead raising concerns among many.
