(ETH) – Scientists have recently discovered a planet called K2-141b and are comparing it to what they are deeming “Hell Planet”. The reason being is because the planet which is hundreds of light-years away, has oceans that are made of molten lava, winds that reach supersonic speeds, and rain that is made of rocks.

Scientists are stating that the hellish exoplanet is one of the most “extreme” planets that has ever discovered. Scientists also found that the atmosphere and weather cycle of this planet to be particularly bizarre. as it appeared to have a surface, ocean, and atmosphere all made of the same ingredients which are rock.

“The study is the first to make predictions about weather conditions on K2-141b that can be detected from hundreds of light-years away with next-generation telescopes such as the James Webb Space Telescope,” lead author Giang Nguyen said in a news release this week.

The scoring hot part of the planet reaches temperatures of over 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit which is hot enough to not only melt rocks but also vaporize them, creating a thin, inhospitable atmosphere, However, the rest of the planet is said to be cloaked in never-ending darkness, reaching frigid temperatures of negative 328 degrees Fahrenheit.
