(ETH) – Wildfires continue to burn in California forcing a state of emergency in the state as tens of thousands of acres have been scorched.  The Glass Fire alone which is one of nearly 30 burning across the state, has reportedly scorched more than 66 square miles and destroyed about 95 structures, including at least 80 homes according to a report from CBN News.

Officials, there are warning that flames from the fires are now racing through areas that haven’t burned in more than a hundred years.  There are so many reports coming out of the fires from different residents and those attempting to ut of the flames. In one of many across the region, a sheriff’s lieutenant was recently seen using a garden hose in an attempt to stop one home from being set on fire.

Another couple made the decision to wait it out and fight the flames that were moving towards their home. “For me personally, worst case I am survivable so I’m willing to stay and take the risk and protect my place to the extent I can,” said the unidentified homeowner.

The report stated that in Shasta County, the Zogg fire claimed the lives of three people, and 150 buildings were mangled by flames and more than 70 square miles, and close to 70,000 residents were evacuated, including the entire town of Calistoga. “It’s a very sobering thing to find out that all you’ve worked for and all of that your parents have worked for – in a moment is gone,” said Mike Christianson.

This year’s historic fire season has resulted in more than 8,100 California wildfires killing 29 people, scorching 5,780 square miles, and destroying more than 7,000 buildings and the smoke has become so severe from these raging fires it’s even turned the moon blood-red in Washington state.
