(ETH) – Alaska has been rattled by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that was reported Wednesday at 9:53 p.m. Pacific time 13 miles from the Tanaga volcano in Alaska’s remote the Aleutian Islands. According to the USGS, the epicenter was farther than 100 miles from a city.
Reports indicate that over the past 10 days, there have been at least four earthquakes of a magnitude 3.0 or greater centered in the nearby region. The USGS indicated that earthquake occurred at a depth of 6.2 miles. This news follows the recent headlines of U.S. officials reportedly issuing a “red alert” status for Alaska as the Shishaldin Volcano continued to display “Eruptive activity” in the region.
