Strong 5.1 earthquake strikes Greek capital of Athens sending people running into the streets

(The Sun) – People have been seen running out into the streets of Athens after a large earthquake shook the Greek capital. Experts say that the earthquake had a 5.3 magnitude and has caused communication systems to fail. All public buildings in Attica have been evacuated after the earthquake hit at midday today. The epicenter of the quake was 14 miles northwest of the city and had a focal depth of 12 kilometers.

There are no reports of injuries or damage currently. This comes as ferocious storms ripped through a tourist region in Greece earlier this month, killing at least seven people. Around 140 others were reportedly injured after gale-force winds rain and freak hail storms struck the Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece. READ MORE
