In a recent development regarding international relations, US President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to meet with Iran’s supreme leader or president as discussions commence on Iran’s nuclear program.
Following a meeting aimed at establishing a framework for a potential nuclear agreement, a US official characterized the progress made as “very good.”
In an interview with Time magazine published on April 22, Trump stated, “I think we’re going to make a deal with Iran.”
When asked about the possibility of meeting with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei or President Masoud Pezeshkian, Trump affirmed, “Sure.”
This represents a notable shift in approach, considering that in 2018, Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear agreement established between Iran and several world powers.
He has consistently warned of potential military action against Iran unless a new agreement is swiftly reached to inhibit its nuclear weapons development.
Since 2019, Iran has exceeded the uranium enrichment limits set forth in the 2015 agreement, amassing stockpiles significantly higher than what Western nations deem necessary for a civilian energy program.
