Pastor Michael Todd, the lead pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has sparked controversy and drawn criticism on social media after appearing in what many online perceived as feminine clothing during a recent church service.
The moment, captured on video and widely circulated, shows Todd wearing an outfit that included a long black coat with a fur collar and shiny black boots — attire some critics described as resembling women’s fashion.
The clip, originally shared by Transformation Church, went viral and triggered a wave of backlash, with some commentators questioning whether his outfit aligns with biblical teachings on masculinity.
Others accused Todd of promoting a style that blurs gender lines, a particularly sensitive issue within many Christian communities that hold traditional views on gender roles and presentation.
Notably, critics didn’t just focus on the aesthetics of his outfit, but also tied the choice of clothing to broader concerns about the state of modern church leadership and the rise of what they call “celebrity pastors.”
One popular Christian influencer reposted the video with the caption, “We are not the same,” while others said Todd’s presentation was distracting from the Gospel message.
Despite the criticism, many of Todd’s supporters came to his defense.
They argued that the pastor’s clothing choices should not overshadow his message or disqualify him from his role.
Some also pointed out the double standards often applied to preachers of color or those with large online platforms.
This incident is the latest in a series of controversies for Michael Todd, who is known for his unconventional approach to ministry.
Over the years, his vibrant sermons and theatrical preaching style have drawn both praise and criticism.
While some celebrate his efforts to make church more relatable for younger generations, others question whether his methods compromise the seriousness of biblical teaching.
Conservative media host Jason Whitlock called Todd an “abomination.”
“Mike Todd is an abomination. This is sad,” Whitlock wrote in a post to his nearly 850,000 followers on X Wednesday, highlighting a screenshot of his attire.
Former NFL player and outspoken pro-life Christian Benjamin Watson replied, “Yikes!” While many other Christians weighed in.
It’s unclear what inspired Todd’s Sunday attire, but when asked Thursday, church officials did not immediately respond to questions from The Christian Post.
