Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recently expressed concerns about the aid his country has received from the United States amidst the ongoing conflict.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine has only received approximately $76 billion in military and humanitarian assistance, despite the U.S. authorizing around $175 billion to support Ukraine since the onset of the war.

In a candid interview with the Associated Press, published over the weekend, President Zelensky highlighted the discrepancy between the funds allocated and what has actually arrived in Ukraine.

“When I hear claims – both historically and presently – from the U.S. government that America has provided Ukraine with hundreds of billions of dollars, I must clarify that from my perspective as the leader of a nation in conflict, we’ve received more than $75 billion in tangible support,” he stated.

He elaborated that the majority of the aid has come in the form of weaponry, which he estimated to be valued at about $70 billion. “However, the assertion that Ukraine has received $200 billion to bolster its military efforts is simply not accurate.

I truly do not know where the remaining funds have been allocated,” Zelensky admitted with a note of frustration.

While acknowledging that a significant amount of aid is documented in various programs and initiatives, he emphasized the importance of transparency, saying,

“It might be true on paper, reflecting hundreds of different programs – and we are immensely grateful for every form of support we have received.

But in practical terms, we are only aware of approximately $76 billion flowing into the country.

This aid is crucial, indeed, but it falls short of the $200 billion figure often cited.”

Zelensky’s comments shed light on the complexities of international aid distribution and the need for clarity and accountability in the ongoing support for Ukraine’s defense against aggression.

The Ukrainian leader suggested that perhaps the additional funds went to humanitarian programmes, which he said he was “uninformed about, except for knowing of their existence”.
