Salmonella poses health risks to both animals and humans.

According to WKRC, Pets infected with Salmonella may display symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

Additionally, some pets may exhibit only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal discomfort.

It is important to note that infected pets can also be carriers of the bacteria, potentially transmitting it to other animals or humans.

Pet owners are advised to consult their veterinarian if their pet has ingested the recalled product and demonstrates any of the aforementioned symptoms.

Humans who handle contaminated pet products are also at risk, particularly if they neglect to wash their hands thoroughly after contact.

Symptoms in humans may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. In rare instances, Salmonella infection can result in more serious complications such as arterial infections and arthritis.

Individuals experiencing symptoms after handling the product are strongly encouraged to seek medical attention.

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture collected samples of the product on January 8, 2025, and confirmed the presence of Salmonella through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture Food and Drug Protection Laboratory.

The FDA informed Blue Ridge Beef of the positive test result on January 27, 2025.

The recalled products were distributed between January 3 and January 24, 2025, primarily to retail stores located in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, and Rhode Island.

Consumers are urged to return the product to the place of purchase or to dispose of it in a manner that prevents access by children, pets, and wildlife.

The recalled product must not be sold, donated, or fed to animals.

Furthermore, pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers should be thoroughly washed and sanitized, and hands must be meticulously cleaned following any handling of the recalled food.
