(ETH) – Vanuatu has been hit by a magnitude-6.8 earthquake, the US Tsunami Warning System issued a potential threat of a tsunami – that threat has now passed.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) has said the earthquake was at a depth of 91km (56 miles) and was triggered about 19km north-west of Port-Olry.

According to Express-News, The US Tsunami Warning System has indicated the tremor, which hit at 11.10 am UTC+1. There were concerns it could spark a tsunami, warnings of hazardous waves for coasts within 300km of the epicenter were issued,

but the tsunami threat has now passed. Earth continues to reel from dozens of large earthquakes over the past 2 weeks and doesn’t seem to be letting up any time soon.
