(ETH) – Hamas has just fired rockets at Israel triggering warning sirens throughout Jerusalem and near the Gaza border, in what is being called retaliation after more than 300 Palestinians were injured in recent clashes with Israeli police outside al Aqsa mosque.
The report also states that Hamas had given Israel an ultimatum to stand down its forces at al Aqsa and another Jerusalem flashpoint by 6 p.m. It was then only minutes after the deadline had reportedly passed, that sirens blared in Jerusalem and several explosions were reported.
Hamas also claimed responsibility, and there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Hamas fought a war with Israel back in 2014. Israel’s military has now announced it was suspending a day for a major exercise, citing possible “escalation scenarios”.
