(OPINION) ETH – A new report is revealing that a growing number of Gen Z and millennials have turned to New Age and the occult for “Spiritual Guidance” as the interest in these practices has risen along with spiritual hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Religion News recently revealed that some Christians and non-believers are turning to alternative or “New Age” beliefs for answers to their questions rather than going to the Bible for their answers. Sadly this also includes turning to eastern religious ideas of reincarnation, astrology, psychics, and the presence of spiritual energy in physical objects like mountains.
However, this isn’t something that taken place overnight, as Pew Research, has revealed that it’s been a growing trend for the past few years. The details of the report revealed that during the oppression of the pandemic, tarot card use was rising steadily and that many are spiritual seekers that are dabbling in more darkness rather than seeking the Light of the World for guidance and direction.
CBN News stated that Candace Apple, who is the owner of Atlanta-based “metaphysical store” Phoenix and Dragon stated that there’s been a greater focus on different kits and card decks, along with the “popular new aesthetics.”
“The surge in sales is definitely fueled by the 18- to 25-year-olds searching for their spiritual path and answers to the challenges they are facing in an uncertain world,” she said. This is to be expected among non-believers but the fact that many Christians are turning away from the Word of God to darkness is definitely an alarming sign. The Bible clearly warns against suck practices:
Deuteronomy 18:10-11 says, “There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his on or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell or a medium or a spiritist or one who calls up the dead.”
Leviticus 19:26 warns, “You shall not eat anything with blood, nor practice divination or soothsaying.”
I have always said that the World is searching for answers but many have the wrong phone number. That is where we as believers have the responsibility to guide them to the truth and the light.
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. – Matthew 5:13-16
