(OPINION) ETH – Life after death has been debated since the beginning of civilization and now a new Netflix docuseries called “Surviving Death” puts a huge spotlight on this topic.

Although the series has no shortage of paranormal activity with Mediums calling on the dead. Seances trying to manifest them and people claiming to be reincarnated actors, pilots, or murder victims while others describe feeling a heavenly embrace during near-death experiences.

This series is packed with over six hour-long episodes, pouring over signs and evidence that there is something to experience beyond this earthly realm. Surviving Death’s director, Ricki Stern, stated the following: “I would call myself a sort of non-believer, but someone who was open to it,” Stern told the Guardian from her New York City apartment.

According to Stern, this series builds a convincing and provocative case that our consciousness can and does continue beyond this life as we know it. According to Yahoo News, The director explained that she wanted to explore the possibilities of a great beyond through legitimate analysis.

Although this series appears to deal with the topic of life after death, I would personally use great caution on viewing this series at all being that it appears to be filled with practices that are forbidden according to the Word of God, such as the attempt to contact the dead and using mediums which in reality is nothing more than people communicating with demons and not dead people.

For example, The series also addresses how finding evidence of an afterlife almost always requires an “open mind” and be willing to accept that a visit from a persistent cardinal” or flickering lights can be “signs from the dead”. But Stern admitted that such openness is also grounds for dismissal: “You could just say, people are who are looking for signs will see signs.”
