(ETH) – The CEO of Covid-19 vaccine maker Moderna has just delivered some bad news for 2021 and beyond. He warned Wednesday that the coronavirus that has already brought world economies to a standstill and overwhelmed hospitals isn’t going away anytime soon and warned will be around “forever.”
This comes as Public health officials and infectious disease experts have reportedly said there is a high likelihood that Covid-19 will become an endemic disease, which means it will become present in communities at all times, though likely at lower levels than it is now. According to CNBC, the CEO of Moderna, Stephane Bancel agrees that Covid-19 will become endemic, saying “SARS-CoV-2 is not going away.”
“We are going to live with this virus, we think, forever,” he said during a panel discussion at the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference. Meanwhile, Brits have just received a similar warning after being told that they could be wearing face masks forever as Covid-19 will “always be with us”, according to England’s deputy chief medical officer told The Sun today.
The report states that Professor Jonathan Van-Tam stated that the pandemic has changed how Brits approach daily hygiene and that some habits that we have adopted still stay with us. He went further to warn that the current lockdown will probably be with us until “mid to late Spring” and that the virus will be with us “for the foreseeable future”.
“The pandemic has changed a lot of things. It has changed the way you and I approach hand hygiene. “We all carry hand sanitizer around now, we all expect in most of the places we go into that hand sanitizer is provided at the door. “I think there are going to be people who make a personal decision to say, you know what, when I’m in a crowded place in the winter I’m going to put a face covering on. When I’m on a tube I am going to put a face covering on.”
