(ETH) – As the great exodus away from social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter continues, many are finding refuge in alternative social media networks.

Why is this happening? According to ZDNet, many of these users are getting fed up with relentless privacy violations, surveillance capitalism, political bias, targeting, and newsfeed manipulation by these companies. One social media network has seen an explosion of growth from the exodus.

Los Angeles-based social media network MeWe has been elevated to the currently No. 1 slot on the downloaded social app in the Google Play Store, and the No. 3 downloaded app out of all apps in the store. In fact, the report reveals that the alternative platform has added 2.5 million new members in the last week.

According to the report, MeWe was launched in 2016, surged to nine million users in October 2020, doubling its membership during each of the last three years and now sitting at 15.5 million members — 50% of whom are outside of North America. The platform is also translated into 20 languages and is currently the No. 1 social app in Hong Kong. End Time Headlines can also be found on this platform as well.
