(ETH) – Here we go again! Tropical Depression 31 has formed Friday morning in the Caribbean Sea, and forecasters are expecting it to strengthen further and become the next named tropical system in what has become a record-breaking 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.
According to Accuweather, Forecasters are warning that the developing tropical system may strengthen enough to become a hurricane before it taking aim at the nations of Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala which hasn’t even fully recovered from Hurricane Eta’s disastrous strike last week.
The report states that this storm is actually taking shape in nearly the same exact location that Eta formed less than two weeks ago. The aftermath of Eta has left Central America facing a humanitarian crisis with millions enduring dangerous conditions in the storm’s wake — with concerns ranging from waterborne diseases and COVID-19 complicating recovery. Forecasters are warning that the situation could become even direr in the days ahead.
“I am greatly concerned we may soon have another major disaster on our hands in Central America if this Caribbean tropical system pans out like we suspect,” AccuWeather’s top hurricane expert Dan Kottlowski said. Accuweather stated that when this depression reaches tropical storm strength, it will be called Iota and is the first time the NHC has ever gotten this far into the Greek alphabet during a tropical season.
