(ETH) – Terrorism has struck again in France as reports indicate that three people have been killed after a man shouting “Allahu Akbar” ran into inside a church in Nice before police shot dead a gunman in Avignon. The attack left two people decapitated and a third person killed in the south of France.

According to Mirror, The attack transpired inside the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice at around 9 am as the morning service began, leaving several others injured. The report indicated that police shot the perpetrator who was heard shouting “Allahu Akbar” as he was arrested and taken to hospital.

“Both victims were beheaded,” according to the police spokesman, pointing to “a terrorist attack”. Shortly, afterward, Police also shot dead a gunman in the French city of Avignon two hours later as the country was placed on high alert. This series of attacks follows the recent warning that was issued to citizens living or traveling in several Muslim-majority countries to take extra security precautions as anger has reached a boiling point over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad,

that are considered blasphemous by Islam and was also responsible for a brutal knife attack that occurred outside a French school on Oct. 16th in which Samuel Paty, a teacher who had shown pupils cartoons of Prophet Mohammad in a civics lesson on freedom of speech was beheaded by a man of Chechen origin.
