(ETH) – There are concerns of two of the largest wildfires in Colorado and Wyoming combining to create one “Megafire” as the two fires have come less than 30 miles apart as of Wednesday night. This comes after the Mullen Fire in southern Wyoming crossed into Colorado according to a local affiliate.

According to the report, The fire from the Cameron Peak Fire west of Fort Collins and Mullen Fire west of Laramie along with smaller wildfires near Steamboat Springs and Fraser have combined and created heavy smoke that is producing unhealthy air quality along the northern Front Range of Colorado.

The Mullen Fire crossed into Colorado near Cowdrey, which is north of Walden, closing Colorado Highway 125 and Wyoming Highway 230. The incident has prompted the evacuation of residents in the Roach and Hohnholz areas along Larimer County Road 103.

It also prompted the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest in Colorado to expand its recreational closure northward to the Wyoming border. “It’s definitely a concern of ours and we are in communication with those folks and starting to have conversations to see how things will progress in the next few days to alleviate concerns,”
