(ETH) – Thousands of protesters descended upon Michigan’s capital on Wednesday in a revolt against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home executive order. This protest was titled dangerous  “Operation Gridlock.”.  These protests created a traffic jam surrounding the capital and were deemed an aggressive act of retaliation against the Governor’s executive order.

Critics argue that the order goes too far by restricting access to gardening supplies from select big box stores and the use of motorized boats. The Metro Times is reporting that Images and videos of the protest show people in clusters blatantly disregarding social distancing and Few are seen wearing masks.

Now the revolt has reached the local police department, where four Sheriffs Mike Borkovich of Leelanau County, Ted Schendel of Benzie County, Ken Falk of Manistee County, and Kim Cole of Mason County released a joint statement Wednesday to sound off on Whitmer’s executive order, claiming she is “overstepping her executive authority.”

“She has created a vague framework of emergency laws that only confuse Michigan citizens,” the letter continues. “As a result, we will not have strict enforcement of these orders. We will deal with every case as an individual situation and apply common sense in assessing the apparent violation.”
