(ETH) – The USPS is being sued by one of its own workers who according to a report from Faithwire, is suing the postal service for allegedly being forced to quit because he was required to work on Sundays. Gerald Groff, a Christian has filed the lawsuit claiming he was fired from his position because he refused to work on Sundays because of his faith.

Groff defended his position after he claimed that he made himself available for work on holidays and evening hours to accommodate his religious convictions. The mandatory Sundays reportedly came after the USPS partnered with Amazon, in which the government agency then began implementing a no-exceptions policy against taking off work on Sundays.

“In a free and respectful society, government should recognize those differences among us that make us great, rather than punishing those differences, particularly when those differences result from our sincerely held religious beliefs,” said David Crossett, one of the attorneys representing Groff.
