(Mirror) – A 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck off Seram island in Indonesia. Seram, in Maluku, is east of Indonesia’s Sulawesi island, which was badly damaged by an earthquake and tsunami last year. The two natural disasters combined killed 4,340 people, the Jakarta Post reports. The latest earthquake hit at a depth of 29.9km to the south-west of Seram, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Indonesian authorities said the tremor measured 6.8 on the Richter scale. Indonesia’s geophysics agency said there was no risk of a tsunami being triggered by the quake, but a spokesman said its possible buildings in the area could be damaged. The USGS said there was little chance of landslides, although soil in some areas could give way. READ MORE
