OPINION (Express) – The state of California in the US was hit by two major earthquakes on July 4 and 5, causing spontaneous fires and damage across the southern part of the state. The earthquakes epicenters were found to have hit Ridgecrest in Southern California with residents in the region reporting rocking and trembling houses. They rattled Californian communities, with the shakes from the magnitude-7.1 earthquake on Friday, July 5 being felt as far away as Phoenix, Baja California and Reno, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

A magnitude-4.6 earthquake has now hit the region in the early hours of this morning inducing fears of ‘The Big One’, so do these large earthquakes mean it is on its way? A magnitude-4.6 earthquake struck near Coso Junction, north of Ridgecrest in California at 8.59pm PDT (4.59am on Thursday, July 18 BST).
