(News Channel 9) – The Tennessee Department of Health says two more cases of the measles have been discovered in East Tennessee. This brings the number of cases in the state to three. The state Department of Health says the two new cases are associated with the first measles case. The Tennessee Department of Health sent out a warning last week saying people may have been exposed to the measles in Chattanooga after a patient visited a local gas station.

According to TDH officials, the original East Tennessee resident visited the Mapco on 200 Browns Ferry Road on April 11, 2019 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. TDH says people need to check their vaccination status to see if they are up to date. “We expected to have more measles cases linked to the first one, and these new cases occurred in people we had identified and were monitoring as contacts of the first patient,” said Tennessee Immunization Program Medical Director Michelle Fiscus, MD, FAAP.
