(Express) – Alaska has again been hit by earthquakes after a magnitude 4.4 aftershock hit the southcentral area of Alaska on Monday morning. The magnitude 4.4 aftershock is one of the largest to hit Alaska in recent weeks. An Alaska Earthquake Center seismologist said it is the strongest aftershock since a magnitude 4.5 quake struck on January 22. Monday’s huge tremor hit at 8:02 am local time (4.08pm GMT).

The aftershock struck at a depth of 39,7km (24,5 miles). Monday’s massive aftershock was followed by two magnitude 3.5 earthquakes on Tuesday. One quake struck at 6.59am GMT, some 9,3 miles north-northwest of Fishhook, Alaska. The other came a few hours earlier and struck 20 miles west of Middleton Island. READ MORE
