(FaithWire) – Prominent Chinese pastor Wang Yi penned a powerful letter about civil disobedience, which he instructed to be published should he ever be detained by government authorities for more than 48 hours. Wang, pastor of Early Rain Covenant Church in Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, was arrested alongside some 100 Christian congregants over the weekend, following threats from government officials to shutter the church by the end of the year.
In the lengthy letter, which has been translated into English, Wang declared he “respect[s] the authorities God has established in China” and “submit[s] to the historical and institutional arrangements of God in China.” The pastor’s letter frequently references the brevity of life, reminding the Chinese people there is more to come after this life and the sufferings and successes of the present pale in comparison to eternity. I was involved with Bible funding for China for several years. I have a friend Paul Hattaway with Asia Harvest. My understanding is that his ministry is the only major ministry still supplying Bibles for China. Through the years it has been claimed that for every Bible placed there are anywhere from 3-5 people that come to know Christ. Paul and Joy are printing Bibles in China for $ 1.80. What an eternal return on investment. Praise the Lord!!!!
