Call it the summer of the recall.  It seems like each day brings a new dark shadow to all of our favorite foods with the dreaded recall alert. These past few months, villains from salmonella to mysterious bacteria to concerning “metal objects” have claimed everything from nostalgic cereals and snacks to our best attempts at healthy eating. Here’s a look at what the season’s ruined so far.


Flavor Blasted Goldfish- 
On Monday, Pepperidge Farm announced they were voluntarily recalling four varieties of Goldfish over fears of salmonella in one of the main ingredients, whey powder. Nobody got sick from the crackers, which included their Flavor Blasted varieties.

Ritz crackers – Over the weekend, some brands of the wholesome buttery cracker were voluntarily recalled by its parent company over the same potential risk of salmonella as the Goldfish crackers, though no one got sick from the potentially contaminated whey powder.

Crab Meat – Earlier this month, the CDC warned seafood lovers that crabmeat from Venezuela contained bacteria called Vibrio parahaemolyticus that could cause stomach problems. The crabmeat was linked to about a dozen confirmed cases of infection, mostly in Maryland. Four people were hospitalized. CONTINUE
