Chile has been hit with a massive 6.3 magnitude earthquake shaking the northern area of the country near the Peru border after it struck along the Ring of Fire, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter of the huge tremor was 47 miles south of Putre, Chile. The earthquake will have been felt as far away as neighboring Peru and Boliva, according to a USGS shake map.
Peru was devastated by a deadly earthquake just over a week ago on January 14 leaving at least 65 people injured. No reports of casualties or damage from this latest quake have emerged so far. Authorities have not issued a tsunami warning. The tremor shook the region at 10.10pm CLST, 1.10am GMT. The Peruvian city of Tacna stands less than 75 miles away from the epicenter. READ MORE
