A new report reveals the most “churched” and “unchurched” cities in America — the big cities that have the largest and smallest proportions of residents attending houses of worship each week.  Polling firm the Barna Group found that 38 percent of Americans are “active churchgoers,” compared to 43 percent who haven’t attended church in the past six months (i.e. the unchurched).

Additionally, 34 percent are dechurched, meaning they were former church members but haven’t attended in the past six months. As it turns out, the most churched cities in America are Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Salt Lake City, Utah, with 59 percent of the residents in both localities heading to houses of worship each week.
