A recent debate regarding Homosexuality has resulted in the split of the satellite campus of a United Methodist congregation in Kansas and is causing many congregants to leave the mainline denomination. Reports indicate that Asbury United Methodist Church of Wichita’s west campus, which had an average 350 regular attendance has decided to cut ties with both the main campus and the denomination.
This recent vote came at a meeting that was held last Thursday which featured Asbury Church Senior Pastor Rick Just and West Campus Pastor Aaron Wallace. Asbury UMC recently made a statement on Wednesday, noting that at the meeting Pastor Wallace “acknowledged his struggle with some of the conflict that has been occurring in the life of the denomination.”
Homosexuality is something someone does—not something someone is. Each of us is personally responsible for our behavior.
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. Corinthians 6: 9-11
I grew up in a UMC Church and I left many years ago because of Compromise.
I have been pastoring a church for many years and I refuse to join these denominations because of doctrinal error. Every known denomination wants our church to “come in” and be with them. When I point out their non biblical doctrinal errors as the reason why I refuse, they agree but they won’t change. Every one of them shift the blame to their ruling board for an excuse not to correct themselves.
