According to reports, Sections of the statue mysteriously went dark except for the iconic colossal’s torch and crown on Tuesday night.  Lady Liberty was plunged into darkness for at least an hour at around approximately 11 p.m. The National Park Service seemed perplexed by the sudden incident!  “Some lights on the Statue were temporarily off tonight,” a spokesman for the Statue of Liberty National Monument tweeted.

The reports claim that The “unplanned outage” may have been due to emergency generator project as part of its “last remaining Hurricane Sandy recovery,” but park official Jerry Willis could not be certain and there has never been an official confirmation. He went on to state that crews would return to the statue on Wednesday morning and determine the cause of the blackout. However, consequently, A Twitter account that was created for the “Women’s March movement” speculated that the lights were flipped off to symbolize Wednesday’s call-to-action “Day Without a Women,” which encourages women to skip work, refuse to shop and wear red.  This movement has already reportedly affected schools as reports from Fox News indicate that Several schools in at least four states have already closed so teachers can participate in this strike in which organizers are urging female workers to stay home.
