(By Kelly McDonald, Jr) Yet another city is defying Jeff Session’s recent statement about withholding federal funds from sanctuary cities. Rahm Emanuel, the Mayor of Chicago, announced that his city will remain welcoming to immigrants. He claimed that as many as ‘one-half’ of the businesses in Illinois come from immigrants.
“Sanctuary Cities” are those cities that are not required to adhere to federal requests about arrested individuals who might be illegal immigrants. Sessions argued that the sanctuary city rule allows illegal immigrants with criminal records to roam free on our streets. These criminals would be otherwise deported. The city could lose as much as $1 billion in Federal funding if the Trump Administration follows through with this promise.
