(by Kelly McDonald, Jr) Left-Wing religious groups claim that their numbers and support have skyrocketed since the election of Donald Trump. One of the primary leaders of this group is Serene Jones, the president of Union Theological Seminary. She claims that the institution’s public lectures have had higher turnouts than at any point in her nine-year tenure.

Other left-wing religious leaders have said that people are mobilizing to oppose the President on issues like immigration. Church World Service, a coalition of Christian groups that help immigrants, said that the number of churches volunteering to harbor illegal immigrants has doubled to 800. The religious left claims that their mobilization helped Democrat Roy Cooper beat Republican Pat McCrory. The religious right has been credited with helping to elect Donald Trump. Whether the religious left can sustain a long-term movement has yet to be seen.
