(By Kelly McDonald Jr) Israel is swiftly moving to limit Muslim calls to prayer in Israel according to one report. Presently, Islamic believers have calls to prayer five times a day over loud speakers. Residents of the country have complained of losing sleep over the early AM call to prayer. This is especially disturbing to those who are not of the Muslim faith.
One proposal suggests that they ban the use of loud speakers from the hours of 11 pm to 7 am. Another proposal seeks to completely ban the use of loud speakers in residential areas with a fine attached for those who violate the rule.
As you can imagine, there has been quite a bit of controversy regarding the proposal. Israel is composed of nearly 20 percent Arabs and some of them have called the proposal racist. Some Israelis support it and others denounce it as igniting tensions.
