According to a new report, the survivors have been struck with a financial insult to their injuries — owing the theater $700,000 four years after the deadly shooting. In June, Cinemark attorneys shook down the survivors of the Aurora theater shooting, demanding $700,000 in legal fees after jurors in May ruled against the 28 victims and their families.
A judge has ruled in favor of the theater, ordering the survivors to pay the costly fees, the Los Angeles Times reported. Cinemark, the third-largest theater chain in the country, claimed they needed the money to cover the cost of evidence, records, travel and other expenses, according to court documents. READ MORE
I sure hope Cinemark theatres go out of business after this. I know I won’t ever use them again.
So the plaintiffs were clearly warned they risked having the fees billed out to them if they lost and chose to pursue anyway. I’m sorry, but I don’t see the outrage here. Why should the theater absorb the costs to defend a suit they won? Why should the theater be expected to assume a crazy man would come in and attack the audience?
So if I read this article correctly, only the survivors of the Aurora massacre ‘who sued’ the theater are required to pay legal fees. If that’s the case, this isn’t ridiculous. The ridiculous ones are the those who sued the theater owner because of their greed. They even rejected a settlement offer.
That is so not right!!!
No outrage here. They could have taken the settlement. Why did they sue in the first place? We live in a greedy sue culture, and they thought they could make some money. It’s not the theatre that’s at fault. If anyone should be sued, it’s the CIA who mind programmed Holmes in the first place.
