A magnitude 5.4 earthquake in the Banda Sea off Indonesia has been felt near Darwin, Australian authorities have confirmed. The quake struck just before 9.30pm AEST on Saturday, the Bureau of Meteorology said in statement.

‘The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre has detected an earthquake that has been reported as being felt near Darwin, NT,’ the bureau said. ‘Based on the magnitude and location of this earthquake the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre has assessed there is no tsunami threat to the Australian mainland, islands or territories.’ READ MORE
