Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for more than half the counties in Florida Monday as Tropical Storm Colin headed toward the Big Bend area of the state. One of those counties has already issued a notice for voluntary evacuations. The storm strengthened in the Gulf of Mexico and is already flooding parts of Florida, Monday. By Mid Monday afternoon, flooding was already evident in Clearwater, Tampa, parts of Tallahassee.

Video from Sarasota showed water lapping right at the crest of a seawall. Scott said the state’s Emergency Operations Center was elevated to activation status level 2, “The level two activation at the State Emergency Operations Center will help state and local emergency management officials work together to ensure our state is ready to respond to any impacts of this weather event.” FULL REPORT
