The third day of a rock music festival in Germany featuring the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Black Sabbath has been cancelled after lightning strikes injured dozens of people, some seriously. Scores of people were injured at the site near Mendig, 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Frankfurt, when lightning and heavy rain struck the festival late Friday.

The annual rock festival got underway just after 9:30 p.m. local time (1930 UTC) on Saturday, more than seven hours later than scheduled. “It’s not about causing panic but giving people the feeling that someone is looking after them”, he said. The “Rock am Ring” festival is among the most popular in Germany, drawing about 90,000 visitors this year. FULL REPORT
