A California bill designed to protect LGBT students from discrimination, could also violate freedom of speech and religion at Christian colleges and universities. State Sen. Ricardo Lara’s Senate Bill 1146 narrows the category of schools eligible for a religious exemption to those that train students for pastoral ministry.

It also requires colleges that receive federal religious exemptions to tell potential students. In an editorial in the Sacramento Bee, John Jackson, president of the Christian liberal arts schoool William Jessup University, said the bill destroys any shred of religious freedom for schools.
