(Ricky Scaparo) Deuteronomy 9:9-18 – When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water. Then the Lord delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. And it came to pass, at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.
In this passage above it reveals to us that Moses consecrated himself to a 40 day fast that resulted in him receiving the commandments of the Lord written on stone. He neither ate bread or water which is impossible to survive in natural terms but he was in the direct presence of God which resulted in him being supernaturally preserved. In fact the bible says that when Moses came down from the mountain he had to wear a veil over his face because so much of the Glory of God was emanating from his countenance.
There is a powerful application that can be learned here. Prayer and Fasting can accelerate us to higher places in the Lord that we have not been able to achieve in seasons past. It can unlock and reveal hidden revelation that would have never been unlocked unless one was to humble themselves in a season of prayer and fasting. We all want the “Mountain Experience” but few are willing to endure a season of fasting to achieve it. There is Glory in the “High Places” of the Lord. He wants to elevate us during this season of Prayer and Fasting. There is Glory and revelation waiting on the mountain. Fasting is hard and difficult but the rewards are life changing! What is waiting at the top of your mountain during this season?
