Popocatepetl Volcano in Mexico Erupts, Flights CancelledFlights have been forced to cancel in Mexico City as the Popocatepetl volcano east of the city has been spewing ash into the sky, nearby Puebla International Airport for a second consecutive day. The government’s airport oversight agency says flights to Monterrey, Houston, Guadalajara, as well as inbound flights from Cancun and Dallas were affected. Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention reports there were a series of frequent, moderate explosions at the volcano overnight. The national civil protection agency says the volcano is experiencing a period of frequent low-intensity explosions following a series of tremors on Sunday. Similar episodes were observed in May and July 2013, and likely have to do with the growth of a new dome. SOURCE
