15943359-mmmainWhitney Bank says roughly 7,100 of its customers in Louisiana have been affected by an ATM fraud scheme. Whitney spokesman Paul Maxwell said the bank has learned from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies that other institutions have been impacted as well. “It’s our understanding from those groups that this is not limited to just Whitney Bank. It’s part of a broader scheme that I assume they have detected and are investigating,” Maxwell said. “That’s really all the detail I know about it.” The scheme affects institutions in “certain states” along the Interstate-10 corridor, according to statement from Whitney Bank. A New Orleans-based FBI spokesman, Kyle Hanrahan, said he could not confirm that claim and declined further comment. Maxwell said Whitney ATMs and customers impacted by the scheme are all within Louisiana, concentrated in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.
