Investigators say cows were slaughtered and the plant hid the warning signs of the cancer by trimming off diseased parts, using a fake stamp of approval, or even replacing the heads of sick cows with healthy ones. (Source: CNN)
PETALUMA, CA
 – Federal investigators say a California meat plant processed diseased cows for use in U.S. foods. It’s the same company that was forced to recall 8.7 million pounds of meat back in March. CNN has learned what investigators believe happened inside the Rancho Feeding Corporation – the plant behind one of the biggest meat recalls in years. It involves cancerous cows, meat not fit for human consumption, and an illicit romance. Federal officials familiar with the investigation believe Rancho processed cancerous cows when government inspectors weren’t there. And after they were slaughtered they hid the warning signs of the cancer by trimming off diseased parts, using a fake stamp of approval, or even replacing the heads of sick cows with healthy ones.
