Gavel III pdMOBILE, Ala. – Two lesbian women in Alabama have filed a federal lawsuit challenging the state’s constitutional marriage amendment in their efforts to obtain legal recognition as parents of an eight-year-old boy. Kimberly McKeand and Cari Searcy have been in a relationship for over 14 years, and traveled to California to “wed” in 2008 after winning a contest held by the San Diego Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. In 2005, McKeand conceived via a sperm donor and gave birth to a baby boy that she named Khaya.
