World-Trade-Center-Cross-620x410Atheist activists are continuing their battle against the inclusion of a steel-shaped cross in the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, giving a legal complaint against the Christian symbol another shot in front of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday. American Atheists, an activist group committed to church-state separatism, has long fought the presence of the symbol, which was formed by steel beams and discovered at the World Trade Center site in the wake of the terror attack. David Silverman, the organization’s president, has argued in the past that the cross was included in the 9/11 Memorial and Museum for religious purposes and that it should not be displayed. Now, his case — American Atheists, Inc., et al. v. Port Authority of New York et al. — will, once again, be considered. MORE
