Approaching Storm Grayson has thrust the US East Coast into a state of emergency as a “bomb cyclone” colder than Mars advances, it has been announced. Residents have been warned about Storm Grayson in the states of Florida, Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina as the blizzard sweeps across the region. The city of Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania, has also declared a snow emergency that will begin at midnight. A “bomb cyclone”, otherwise known as the “bombogenesis” effect, occurs when the barometric pressure of

a storm drops by 24 millibars in 24 hours. Barometric pressure is an instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure. The shockingly cold temperatures will plague the US with figures lower than Mars – the red planet’s highest temperature sat at minus 18.8 Celsius. New Hampshire is expected to see temperatures as frighteningly low as minus 37.2 Celsius.
