North Korea has sent a chilling coded message across South Korea’s airwaves in a defiant act designed to ramp up tensions that are already at boiling point. Tension has been high for months on the Korean peninsula over North Korea’s nuclear and missile development amid fears it will conduct a sixth nuclear test and more ballistic missile launches in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.

Kim Jong-un’s hermit state resumed broadcasting the eerie numbers via its radio station in Pyongyang last June, using them to direct their spies across the border in the South.
