Powerful Tropical Cyclone Debbie is reportedly closing in on Australia’s Queensland Province. Reports are indicating that the current conditions are now quickly deteriorating. This deadly cyclone is expected to produce Damaging winds, a storm surge, and flooding rainfall. The last report showed that Debbie was the equivalent of a Category 2 hurricane when it was on the Saffir-Simpson scale as of Monday morning (Eastern Daylight Time). Atmospheric and Oceanic conditions are expected to remain favorable for some additional strengthening before landfall occurs.

Satellite imagery shows a well-defined eye and Debbie will likely be the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane before it makes landfall (if not already that strong). Radar imagery depicts bands of heavy rain with gusty winds spreading inland along the Australian coast.Hamilton Island, which is located just off the northeast coast, has seen sustained hurricane-force winds (74+ mph) along with gusts over 110 mph as of early Tuesday morning Australian time (eastern Australia is 14 hours ahead of U.S. EDT).
