Some believe the large lunar body is a harbinger for an even bigger spiritual event — the Second Coming of Christ. This “supermoon” appeared 14 percent bigger and 20 percent brighter than normal because it was unusually close to the Earth’s surface.

The last time a supermoon graced the skies was nearly 70 years ago in 1948, the same year biblical prophecy was fulfilled when Israel became a nation.
